Melanocytes as a main skin cells affected by melasma.



What are melanocytes? They are skin cells which are mainly responsible for pigment production. They are located in the middle section of human skin. Main substance which is produced by melanocytes is called "melanine". Process in which melanine is produced by melanocytes is called melanogenesis. Melanocytes are skin cells which are affected by hormones during melasma. Main aim in treatment for melasma is to reverse melanocytes to their normal working cycle.
