In medicine, pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) is the insertion of the catheter into the pulmonary artery. His goal is the diagnosis, is used to detect heart failure or sepsis, the monitoring of therapy and evaluated the effects of drugs. Pulmonary artery catheter allows direct and simultaneous measurement of pressure in the right atrium, right ventricle, pulmonary artery and filling pressure ("Round 'pressure) of the left atrium.

PAC is often referred to as the Swan-Ganz catheter, All in honor of its creator Jeremy Swan and William, of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The idea for the catheter (as later by Dr. Swan) reveals sailing of the observations was on the water.
